A winter storm watch has been issued for southern Connecticut, the National Weather Service warning that as much as 10 inches of snow is possible for the region.

The National Weather Service said Saturday morning that “heavy snow” is possible, with as much as 10 inches possible between Sunday evening and Monday evening, when the snow is expected to taper off.

Though expected to start on Sunday, the heaviest snowfall is expected to be Monday, with as much as 2 inches per hour into Monday evening.

In addition to the snow, winds could gust as high as 45 miles-per-hour.

Coastal areas could see near-blizzard conditions, though less snow is expected for the southeast and northwest corners of the state.

With the storm expected to start Sunday night, the National Weather Service said to expect a difficult commute on Monday.

“Travel could be very difficult,” the winter storm watch said. “The hazardous conditions could impact the morning and evening commute.”
