Artist Interview – Jordan Clark

Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Jordan Clark and I’m a multimedia artist and illustrator! I started off sharing my art on the web more than 5 many years ago and grew an audience by creating artwork tutorials on Youtube. I afterwards opened a organization offering my own illustrated stickers and stationery online. I have since stepped back from jogging my small business and I am now working on developing new abilities as an artist and using my work in a different direction.

How and when did you get into artwork?
I truly feel like art has generally been a section of my everyday living. I grew up obsessed with arts and crafts from a quite young age, thanks to my mom who constantly inspired my creativity. As a teenager I commenced a website to share my function and join with a local community of other artists that I could not have uncovered in my modest city. I then determined to review art in school and used 4 a long time having lessons on design, drawing, and pictures.

How has your practice adjusted over time?
My follow is consistently evolving. I have in no way been just one to stick to a single medium! As a teenager, I prepared to use my artistic skills to become a graphic designer. I beloved digital illustration and photography and expended a large amount of time functioning on my computer, which also translated nicely into making films on Youtube. Even though I by no means actually turned a graphic designer, all the competencies I figured out contributed to the success of my on line organization. In the recent decades I’ve been much more fascinated in finding my fingers messy and generating actual physical artwork. I’m currently functioning with conventional media and spend most of my time practising with paint, pastels, and graphite.

What is the ideal piece of art tips you have been provided?
My favourite artist on Youtube, Sandi Hester, has this mantra: “all the negative goes into the good”. I’m consistently reminding myself of this—that you will have to generate “bad” art ahead of you can make “good” art! This has basically modified the way I display up each day. I permit myself to make like a kid would, by enjoying and experimenting and not judging what I make. Some of my most loved function has occur from this exploratory way of thinking. It is a uncomplicated idea, but I consider the panic of making a thing “bad” is what stops most individuals from ever making an attempt to make artwork in the to start with position.

What is just one artwork idea/system you can share with us that you find really practical?
Make art every single day. It sounds truly simple, but this is crucial to locating your way as any type of artist. The only way you’ll develop a exclusive design, enhance your skills, or obtain inspiration is by displaying up consistently to do the work.

What is your preferred Strathmore paper?
I’m continually utilizing the Strathmore 400 collection drawing paper. I adore the a little bit toothy texture and the cream colored paper is my favorite to perform on! Even though it’s intended for dry mediums, I nonetheless use it with moist mediums simply because I appreciate how tactile the paper gets as it warps with unique resources (and it is generally enjoyment to use artwork materials the “wrong” way).
