Philadelphia Zoo Celebrates Birth of Endangered Toddler Monkey to Very first-Time Mom and dad

The Philadelphia Zoo is celebrating a new arrival.

On Friday, the zoo declared on social media that a little one François langur, which is a type of monkey, was born final month — marking the first start of the endangered species at the zoo.

The feminine langur was born on December 13 to very first-time parents Mei Mei and Chester. She was named Quý Báu, pronounced “Qwee-bow,” which suggests “valuable” in Vietnamese, the zoo wrote on Twitter and Facebook together with a movie of the newborn monkey being bathed and fed.

When Quý Báu was born, zoo staff noticed that Mei Mei was not attending to her, which the zoo explained isn’t really unusual for first-time mothers. To assure Quý Báu acquired the care she essential, the zoo’s vet employees took the child langur to their animal clinic for a bathtub and food items.

“Due to the fact then, she and mom have bonded and the overall family is performing good!” the zoo explained.

When she was initial born, our crew discovered Mei Mei was not attending to her, which is not unheard of for initial time moms. So our vet team took the infant to the animal hospital for a warming bath and some foodstuff.

Given that then, she and mother have bonded and the entire family is executing good!

In accordance to the New England Primate Conservancy, François langurs are ordinarily found in the dense, humid forests and environmentally friendly valleys of southern Guangxi province in China and northern Vietnam. 

The species’ inhabitants — which is down to only 2,000-2,100 —  is stated as “reducing” owing to habitat reduction, mining and quarrying, logging, and looking, the New England Primate Conservancy shared.

To stabilize the population of François langurs, zoos through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums launched a shared conservation effort and hard work to produce the Langur Species Survival System, which maintains breeding documents for langurs in zoos throughout the nation.
