Terrorism didn’t motivate lethal Oregon vehicle assault

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Investigators have found no evidence that terrorism, politics or any bias enthusiastic a driver who repeatedly drove into individuals alongside streets and sidewalks in Portland, Oregon, killing a 77-year-aged woman and injuring nine other people, law enforcement said Tuesday.

The driver, whose title has not been released, was hospitalized and was expected to be booked into jail afterward, the Portland Law enforcement Bureau said in a information launch. Police did not give the man’s problem or say why he is in a hospital.

He’s accused of putting the lady, who was dragged a shorter length beneath the wheels of a tiny SUV, and then continuing to drive, hitting other people today and vehicles. Just after the driver fled on foot, neighbors surrounded him till police arrived.

The woman, who died at a hospital, was identified as Jean Gerich of Portland, law enforcement claimed. The Oregon State Clinical Examiner determined she died of blunt pressure trauma and ruled her dying a homicide, according to police.

“Detectives did not obtain proof that this was an act of terrorism. Detectives did not obtain bias indicators, nor do they think this is politically determined,” police stated. “Detectives say that the driver’s steps did exhibit intent to hit and injure folks.”

Law enforcement obtained a contact Monday that a driver had strike a pedestrian, law enforcement spokesman Derek Carmon reported.

More calls came in from individuals expressing somebody driving the exact car or truck, a Honda Component, was hanging other folks and vehicles about a 15-block span, at times reaching speeds of 60 mph, Carmon stated.

9 other people today who were strike, such as pedestrians and cyclists, endured minor accidents and have been recovering, police said.

Larry Wolfe told The Oregonian/OregonLive that he had an appointment with the female who was killed and saw her get strike by the car or truck and scream.
